サン・ブルーノのガス爆発事故

先週の木曜日の夕方のこと。ちょっと買い物に出かけ、車の中でラジオを聞いていたところ、サンフランシスコ空港のすぐそばのサンブルーノ（San Bruno）という町で大きな爆発事故があったというニュースを聞きました。

ものの３０分ほどの間に数十件の民家が燃えてしまい、当初は航空機が墜落したのでは？という報道もありました。

ところが航空機の墜落などではなく、なんと過去に例がないほどの大規模なガス爆発だったのです。

ようやく火は消えましたが、まるで爆撃でもあったかのような風景です。








これが爆発し、吹き飛ばされたガスのパイプです。直径が３０インチ（７５センチほど）もあります。

この災害で現在までに４人が死亡、４人行方不明。３７７世帯が避難し、３７軒の家が全壊だそうです。

お亡くなりになった方のご冥福を心よりお祈り申し上げます。

各所で災害義援金を受け付けているようです。英語ですいませんが、こちらが寄付情報です。

# The Silicon Valley Community Foundation will match financial gifts made to the San Bruno recovery effort. Its initial commitment is $100,000. Details: 650-450-5444 or e-mail donate@siliconvalleycf.org.

# The San Bruno Lions Club has a fund to help victims. Mail donations to San Bruno Lions Club, P.O. Box 242, San Bruno, CA 94066, and write "FIRE" in the check's "For" section. Details: 650-873-9166.

# To donate cash to victims via the American Red Cross, call 800-RED-CROSS and specify "San Bruno Fire."

# The Safeway Foundation, which has donated $25,000, gift cards, food and ice to victims, has established a donation program at cash registers in Bay Area counties. Details: www.safeway.com.

# Wells Fargo, which has donated $50,000 to aid victims, will allow customers to make donations to the Red Cross at any of its ATMs in San Mateo County during the month of September.
Giving blood
To donate blood, contact Blood Centers of the Pacific at 888-393-GIVE or go to http://bloodcenters.ehclients.com. For Red Cross blood donation info, call 800-RED-CROSS.

#Bedding, clothing
The Salvation Army at 300 El Camino Real in San Bruno will accept donations, as will the Goodwill Industries location at 225 Kenwood Way in South San Francisco.
